A Plan Forward: From Receiving Churches to Sending Churches

Thank you for your prayers and support in July. We’ve had an amazing time with two teams from Matrix Ministries and LifePoint Church in Plano. A great amount of work was accomplished at the Hogar de Vida orphanage, and work on a new ministry building was begun at Iglesia Bíblica de Atenas.

Another major change involves the way we do ministry. For years we have been holding conferences, promoting service opportunities, and building deep relationships with pastors across Costa Rica and into Nicaragua. And while we will continue to host mission teams and manage projects when we can, we will be moving forward with an ambitious plan that I didn’t think we would get to for a few more years.

We will be working with a handful of churches through mentoring, coaching, teaching, and resourcing, to help each one identify and equip a missionary couple, with the goal of sending them cross-culturally, ideally to the 10/40 window.

Many churches and pastors in the “two thirds” world look at themselves as “receiving” churches, and not “sending” churches. Lord willing, we will not only help to change that attitude, but change that behavior as well.

We have much to learn and many obstacles to overcome to see this happen. But with your prayers and support, great things are in store.

And we praise God for the six Cabecar couples who are obeying the Lord by getting married. Unexpected fruit from the new ministry there!
